Holiday Self-Care

T’was the holiday season

Which can bring up a lot of feelings

From joy, happiness, excitement, and more

We experience it as we wander aisles of festive stores

Holiday music, lights, treats and sweets

The perfect holiday décor and gift is a challenging feat

For some the holiday season may not bring so much joy

The pressure and strain can surely annoy

Shorter and darker days

Affect us all in many ways

Grief, loneliness, sadness, and stress

These feelings may leave us wanting to do less

Nostalgia for holiday traditions of the past

We wish those memories could last and last

Holiday traditions can change for good or bad

While missing loved ones can leave us feelings very sad

There is no right or wrong way to spend the holiday

And here is a therapists reminder to take away:

Whether you are hosting, having a small gathering or none,

Make sure to take care of yourself this holiday season

Happy holidays-whatever and however you celebrate!
